60’s in the garage area of Williamsport resident Kermit Smith, where he repaired grills as a hobby-turned-business. Viewing the necessity for the right parts store for the new gas grill industry, Kermit’s company was the ongoing service source for North central Pennsylvania. Looking ahead to retirement, Kermit sold his little business to Dan and Linell Stabler in 1989 with the prediction that alternative warming would soon sweep the country. He was right. The business has come quite a distance since then. In 20 years, his little parts business is continuing to grow into the area’s premier decorative heating retailer.
In March 2014, the R.E. Smith Company went through another noticeable change. Daniel Strailey, Curtis Michael, and Harold (Butch) Erb purchased the business from Dan and Linell providing them an opportunity to retire and pursue other ventures. Curt and Butch are no strangers to the industry and can continue to provide the same high-quality product line and customer support that is second to none.
